Rooted in Community
So many people contribute to our fulfilled and happy life here on banks of the Zambezi, and we are committed to give back where we can.
From creating a women’s collective of foragers and processors, to donating land and water for irrigated garden allotments for the farm’s workforce. From building a bustling preschool and day care centre, to apprenticing school leavers in the farm workshop and in my kitchen and regenerative garden – reciprocity is an undercurrent spurring the progress of every aspect of life on our farm.
Neighbouring villages have also benefited from money raised by the children of American friends: Floridian high schoolers who have raised money to donate boreholes and solar irrigation, as well as Virginian middle schoolers who raised thousands of dollars to help build our farm school and pay for its head teacher to qualify at a local university.
Chris and I also actively support Livingstone’s Zambezi Animal Welfare Services (ZAWS), a non-profit organisation that provides animal welfare and protection services to dogs and cats in and around our nearest town. Many of our beloved four-leggeds have joined our family from ZAWS, and they are testament to the commitment, love and support given to abused and stray animals that end up in the organisation’s care. Donations are always welcome and links can be found on their website above.
